Great-Grandma's Sugar Cookies
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Mix together flour, soda, tartar, and salt. Cut in shortening. Beat eggs, sugar, and vanilla together, then add to the flour mixture. Make balls and press flat on a cookie sheet. If dough is too soft, cover it and put in the refrigerator for a while. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters if desired. Paint the cookies before baking. Bake at 375 for 8-9 minutes. Do not let brown. While still warm, brush with powdered sugar glaze. (This is Grandpa's mom's recipe)
